THOSE WHO WANT TO DO BUSINESS MUST BE PRODUCTIVE

“If you make your bed every morning, your day will be a lot more productive”. When my colleague told me this fact, my interest was immediately aroused. Interestingly, even before you get in the shower, you can remove something from your to-do list by simply making your bed. But… even more important than being able to remove something from your list, you make sure that your living environment is tidy, which results in peace of mind. So it is the little things that can make the difference. What are those little things you can do to make your day more productive and successful?

Let’s first ask ourselves what ‘being productive’ actually means. Many of the tips listed online for achieving productivity are obvious: eliminate distractions, put your phone away, go to sleep on time and make sure you have enough exercise. Still, I don’t think I will achieve my dream of opening my own restaurant by ignoring my phone. But how do I get there?

During my work, I have noticed that my personal productivity depends on a clear daily schedule. I immediately pick up small tasks, difficult phone calls, and administrative matters so that I can cross them off. Being able to cross off my to-do list gives me a lot of energy to be able to deal with the other daily tasks as well. After all, time management gives me a feeling of control and power over time.

We select the priorities on our to-do lists by checking which tasks are the most important and urgent tasks of the day. However, instead of asking ourselves what is the most important thing we have to do today, we have to ask ourselves what is the most important thing we can do today and thus make things better tomorrow. What can I do today to create more peace of mind tomorrow? Although I have to admit that I can think a bit more ahead. Tomorrow is just in my short term mind, next week on the other hand.

For me, tackling and just doing is the key to personal productivity and thus to entrepreneurship. Don’t postpone it, but actually take action. The downside of always being ‘on’ is that you can walk past yourself (and others). Be critical of this. Give enough attention to the people around you, ask beyond the “good, and you?”. The more efficient you are in your time, the more room you have for your surroundings. Know what is going on in the lives of the people around you, whether they are candidates, colleagues or friends.

Invest in this as well, because, in addition to productivity, a warm and large network is the key to success in business. And if your day is a little less productive than hoped for, you will always find a bed made at home.
